The experts at Offeroftheday give Argos an overall rating of 4.4/5
Argos offers a huge product range with offers on technology, home & furniture, garden & DIY, toys and more. Since their acquisition by Sainsburys they also have the benefit of the Tu Clothing range on site. This has definitely rounded out the product selection. Argos stocks products from a wider variety of brands and we like that you can shop both affordable models and premium versions of anything you're looking for.
Argos probably has one of the best delivery systems we've seen. The easiest way to get your purchase is through Click & Collect. With most Argos stores now residing within a Sainsburys store, we found it easy to pair up collecting our Argos orders with picking up some groceries. Since relocating to within Sainsburys the Argos desks are now open later than they were as individual stores. Argos also offers same day delivery on a number of products, so it's even possible to get your purchase the very same day!
Returns at Argos are very easy. Other than very large items delivered, you can return any purchase to your local Argos store regardless of purchase method. If you collected your product in store it must be returned in store. Online deliveries can be returned by post. There's a 30 day return policy and the Live Chat team can help if you're having any issues. Refunds take around 5-7 days which is relatively fast compared to other retailers we've seen. Paypal refunds will take longer.
Argos has a very easy to use Live Chat function which is by far the easiest way to get support. There's also a very easy to use FAQ section on site which can answer most of the questions we think anyone would have. You can pop into the store to get help from someone in person or you can email, call or write. Argos also provides SignVideo (BSL) which we think is a great addition. Overall users give positive feedback on their experiences with Argos customer services.
Argos and Sainsburys seem very committed to tackling climate change. They publicly report their process on targets for reductions twice a year. The Aim is to be net zero in their own operations by 2035, water neutral by 2040, reduce plastic packaging by 50% by 2025 and aim to plant a further 1.5 million native trees by 2025. They received an A rating on their CDP climate change and water disclosures.
Established in November 1972, the first Argos shop opened in Canterbury in 1973. Richard Tompkins had previously established Green Shield Stamps before rebranding the original catalogue shops as Argos. Argos was purchased by BAT industries in the late 1970s for £32 million. In 1990 it was demerged from BAT industries and listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1990. In 2016 Argos was purchased by supermarket chain Sainsburys. In November 2020, Sainsburys announced it would close 420 Argos stores, while 120 stores moved into the nearest Sainsburys. Argos is known as one of the UK's largest general retailers.
