The experts at Offeroftheday give M&S an overall rating of 3.8/5
M&S offers a huge selection of clothing for men, women and kids. Their fashion selection is where we find them strongest, with high quality products from their own brands and other popular retailers like FatFace. They are constantly evolving their fashion lines and are now much more suited to all ages than they have been in the past. We also love their selection of high quality furniture. They often offer multi-buy savings and even free gifts, especially in the beauty section.
Click & Collect is very easy at M&S and home delivery on clothing is FREE on orders over £50. We like the addition of time slot delivery as this makes it easy to work around work and other plans. Because M&S has so many departments like flowers, wine, hampers, food and furniture all run differently, the delivery options and charges can start to get a little confusing. For example, next day delivery on flowers is free, but would cost you £4.99 when buying clothing.
The M&S returns process is very easy to go through. You can return items to your local store or manage your return online. We like that M&S also has dedicated walkthroughs on how to go through a return if you are a guest user. A lot of retailers only mention returns through the 'your account' section, so sometimes it can be a little confusing knowing what to do if you didn't opt to make an account. All you'll need to get started with a return as a guest is your surname and order number.
M&S has a great FAQ section that is broken down into a number of sub topics. We find this very easy to browse and it's helpful to find the answer to most queries here. However, it is also easy to get in touch with M&S directly and they offer web chat and email options as well as direct phone numbers. You can also pop into your local store and seek help from one of M&S' friendly colleagues.
M&S takes pride in its efforts to be sustainable. It sources Fairtrade coffee for its coffee shops, responsibly sources the cocoa used in its chocolate and offers large selections of plant based alternatives. It has committed to better cotton and uses renewable electricity. Future targets include zero deforestation and net zero by 2035, reduce food waste and use zero emissions transport by 2025 and increase the range of plant based protein by 2040.
Founded by Michael Marks and Thomas Spence in the early 1900s, Marks & Spencer continues to be a staple of the British high street. M&S was one of few retailers in the early 1900s to accept the returns of unwanted goods in exchange for a full refund providing proof of purchase was shown. In 1958 M&S began selling their infamous Christmas cakes and puddings, as well as improving the quality of their other food items. In 1973 Marks & Spencer expanded into Canada, but these shops were closed by 1999, in part because the product range was catered towards seniors and Britons. In the 2000s M&S has had a number of store closures and management change ups and in July 2022 the company agreed to buy Gist Limited for £145 million.
M&S has a range of clothes and you can shop their selections by fit type including curve, maternity, petite and tall. Their cashmere selection is a Winter favourite and offers high quality warmth. While originally pitched at an older clientele, M&S has made big efforts to produce high quality fashion for all ages and it's perfect for smart casual products. They also have a number of their own brands as well as well established brands and these include Autograph, FatFace, Per Una, Seasalt Cornwall and White Stuff.
One of the best high street selections of lingerie for women, M&S boasts a great range including bras for sizes F to H, something other retailers don't often cater to. M&S offers a bra fit guide and is also great for shopping nightwear. Their dressing gowns and pyjamas are extremely soft and perfect as a gift for Christmas.
Shop for all with sizes up to 5XL on a number of product lines. You can even book yourself a suit fitting and take advantage of your choice of blazers, suits, formal shirts and smart trousers. Find offers on brands like Ben Sherman, Craghoppers, FatFace and Jack & Jones. The mens section is great for footwear with high quality leather shoes as well as trainers and slippers. Wide fit styles are also available.
M&S is a great place to find quality school uniforms and school shoes. You'll also find essentials for newborns with sleepsuits, outfits and sets. M&S stocks quality clothing for kids up to the age of 16yrs. You can find brands like Joules, Clarks, FatFace, White Stuff and Early Learning Centre. There's a great selection of toys, games and puzzles to keep the kids entertained.
Complete the look of your home with candles, fresh plans, photo frames, vases & planters. M&S has a dedicated flowers section, perfect for sending a gift. You'll also see an extensive range of bedding, with high quality duvet covers, pillows and kids' specific bedding. M&S has its own collection of kitchen and tableware, plus collections from brands like Joseph Joseph.
Perhaps not quite as obvious when browsing your local store, but M&s has a wide selection of furniture online. Find sofas, armchairs, bedside tables, beds, mattresses, dining tables and even bookcases. You can also book yourself a furniture consultation online or speak to an in-store expert for your live furniture shopping experience.
M&S stocks high quality skincare and makeup from brands like Benefit, Clinique, Pixi and REN Clean Skincare. You'll find quality hand cream, fragrance, suncare and bath & body products and there's also a selection of men's grooming products.
M&S also provides a wide selection of food & wine, even having dedicated M&S food halls in some cities. You can also visit their site and look at the M&S Banking options.
M&S takes part in Black Friday yearly, offering up big discounts at the end of November in the run up to Christmas. Previous years have seen 20% off ALL beauty, 40% off selected homeware and 20% off certain brands. Keep an eye out for strong sales around Boxing Day (December 25th), January and in the Summer. There are often a number of multi-buy offers to look out for and when using their site they handily list strong offers in each category section. We often see sales of up to 50%, usually at the beginning of the seasons as older styles are replaced.
The M&S help page is a great place to start when you find yourself stuck. There's a FAQ section listing common questions and their solutions including information about delivery tracking, refunds and order changes.
If you do need to contact customer service you can drop them an email or use their live chat function. For questions about store service you can ring M&S on 0333 014 8555. This service is available Monday-Friday: 8am-8pm and Saturday-Sunday: 8am-5pm.
Because M&S has such a wide range of products, delivery methods may change. For most orders you can opt for store collection for FREE. Offers before 10pm can usually be ready from 12pm the next day. Standard delivery is £3.50 or FREE on orders over £50. Time slot delivery is also available.
Returns are FREE, simple and easy. You can return your item to your local store, by post via Evri or Royal Mail or opt for collection from home. All you'll need to do is go to 'Orders and Returns' in your account and follow the easy steps. M&S have a 25 day return policy, but this is only 14 days for sale items.
M&S offers a Sparks card, a great way to collect rewards and even donate to charity. You can download the M&S app to scan your card straight away from your phone. You'll get personalised offers and whenever you scan your card, M&S will donate to your chosen charity. Each week they'll surprised some lucky customers with a gift and every week in store, they'll treat a Sparks customer to the shopping they're buying for FREE. They also give away thousands of pounds to spend at M&S and online.
